I just brought home a Skyriter that seems to be in exactly the same condition yours was in before this wonderful transformation. I shall definitely be using this post as a reference as I try to refurb this poor neglected little fella.

So, thanks!Duffy Moonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10105074089216551597noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6279309419524234879.post-42418345962616065442013-02-08T15:47:49.895-08:002013-02-08T15:47:49.895-08:00Now that you mention it, it does look like the She...Now that you mention it, it does look like the Shelby Cobra, but I'm not a car person. I thought I saw the steering wheel with a the Romeo logo, but I could be wrong. I will defer to you on the car. :)
I don't think the L22 is better than skyriters but I cant really type on the L22's thin space bar so the skyriter fits me better. Frankly it is not very important to me but thought I would let you know.

I have a SC 4S. Speedline. Awesome little typer. Just spent a day fixing up an Olivetti Lettera 22. Fun little thing. I got used to the feel. Now I am thinking about getting a Skyriter. Are they better than a L22? Almost as good a typer as a Speedline? Guess I need to find a 2Y or 3Y to play with. It reminds me a little of my recent experience with an Underwood, except that your Skyriter needed more extensive attention.

The racing stripes are a nice touch!

I've found that kerosene works excellently for freeing up keys. That is presently my favorite manual typewriter I own. Same color scheme. It totally changed the way I thought and made me pay attention to standards more because they are simply easier to type with IMO. I did see a pink HH at typewriter repair store and it looked awesome. They weren't selling it because it had some unique thing to it that I didn't understand but it was in great condition and a beauty. It also made me reconsider pink typers. : )

And thx for putting me on the blogroll!!- a typebarheadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12582684370284561165noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6279309419524234879.post-53569262232291846202012-04-30T16:00:56.493-07:002012-04-30T16:00:56.493-07:00You're now on the Typosphere blogroll, thanks ...You're now on the Typosphere blogroll, thanks to Mike.Richard Phttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16232053429935587826noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6279309419524234879.post-48335406572440494982012-04-30T15:39:34.450-07:002012-04-30T15:39:34.450-07:00Le Mans striping FTW. I've become a believer in using Naptha to de-grease and de-gunk parts (see the recent post on Clickthing about the big Royal HH) It's sold in hardware stores as lighter fluid, so you'll want to use it out-of-doors and away from open flames, obviously.

Love, love, love the yellow felt. I'm a firm believer in snazzy soundproofing, too. I've re-lined a couple of typewriters in red felt and one in a deep kelly green. I was smiling as I read this because I recognized so much: the long drive to get a questionable typewriter, visits to Michaels and Home Depot, trying out various techniques, ignoring safety precautions ... good thing there is the Internet so we insane people can have company.

You may have seen my own pimped-out Tower/Skyriter:
http://writingball.blogspot.com/2011/05/hot-rod-tower-typewriter.html
I use it for bikecasts.

I think yours looks really great, and it's a wonderful concept. I haven't tried any stenciling, myself.

For safe rust removal, Evapo-Rust is great stuff:
http://writingball.blogspot.com/2011/05/reanimated.html

To avoid new rust formation, use a blow dryer. After blow drying, I also let the typewriter sit over a heating vent and crank up the heat. Then you invariably have to lube the carriage rails and possibly some linkages.

I'd suggest squirting some carburetor cleaner into your segment to clear out the oil before it gets gummy. But be careful, carb cleaner will damage paint.

Thanks for sharing!Richard Phttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16232053429935587826noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6279309419524234879.post-21584809119842690482012-04-29T00:54:41.009-07:002012-04-29T00:54:41.009-07:00Yellow!
